In July, 2020, ABA President Trish Refo led an ABA delegation to Colombia to support ongoing human rights and rule of law efforts and explore additional potential cooperation between the Colombian government and the ABA. Both ABA ROLI and the Center for Human Rights have been working with the Colombian justice sector and civil society for many years. While in Bogota, President Refo also met with Colombian President Iván Duque Márquez (Duque) to discuss additional support the ABA might provide for the ongoing peace process.
The delegation consisted of ABA President Trish Refo, ABA ROLI Board Chair Hilarie Bass, and Alberto Mora, Director of the ABA’s Center for Global Programs, composed of the Rule of Law Initiative, Center for Human Rights, and the ABA’s United Nations Representatives. They met with judges, educators, LGBTQ activists, and political leaders in Cartagena and Bogota, and attended an ABA event in Bogotá, Colombia.
