Webinar: ACCESS to Justice during COVID-19

On April 23, 2020, ABA ROLI’s Manila-based team hosted a webinar to share best practices and resources for continued protection for vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 lockdown. The webinar featured panelists from the Commission on Human Rights, Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and civil society organizations. Over 250 participants from around the country attended, including civil society organizations, advocates, and paralegals, who will disseminate the information to vulnerable populations to help them adapt to the developing challenges and recover from the pandemic.

COVID-19 containment measures disproportionately affect underrepresented populations, like the urban poor, daily wage earners, detainees, and those at risk of domestic violence and exploitation. Continued protection and education of their rights during community quarantine can help redress these disparities. The webinar formed part of ABA ROLI’s promotion of access to justice for the most vulnerable populations in the Philippines through the 5-year, USAID-funded ACCESS Project.
