ABA ROLI Will Participate in the Tashkent Spring Law Forum

The Tashkent Law Spring Forum will take place from April 25 - 27 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The Tashkent Law Spring Forum will commence at the end of the month in the capital of Uzbekistan— the heart of Central Asia. This momentous event will be the first time that this international legal forum takes place, and will complement Uzbekistan’s announcement of 2019 as the “Year of Active Investments and Social Development.” In attendance will be the American Bar Association’s Associate Executive Director of Global Programs, Alberto Mora, as well as representatives of the world’s top companies and law firms and high-level government officials and experts from the rule of law field. Mr. Mora will speak during the Forum’s Plenary Session, titled “Law in an Era of Rapid Modernization.”

After a 12-year hiatus, the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) initiated new programming in Uzbekistan in 2018 in partnership with the United States Department of State and the National Democratic Institute. The “Protecting and Enhancing the Advancement of Rights Through the Legal System (PEARLS)” program represents ABA ROLI’s newest work to support the advancement of the rule of law in Uzbekistan. Therefore, the program’s goals are to support Uzbekistan’s national defense bar association— the Chamber of Advocates— in its efforts to support individual rights and due process, as well as to advance legal education reform efforts at the country’s national law school, Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL).

With ABA ROLI’s new and robust programming underway in Uzbekistan, this Forum will be a significant opportunity for ABA ROLI to take part in. The Forum’s official program will include substantial discussions on a range of issues, including public administration, modern legal science, and best practices for the legal profession. This international legal forum will also address how to strengthen international cooperation among various actors in the areas of good governance, rule of law, the judicial and legal system, and active investment policy.

Additionally, the Forum will announce winners for the following awards: "Best Lawyer of the Year", "Best Bar Association of the Year,” and "Best Corporate Legal Service of the Year.” Participants will also have the opportunity to enjoy a rich cultural and sightseeing program across several ancient cities located on the Great Silk Road, including Bukhara, Samarkand, Khiva, Nukus, Ferghana, and Tashkent.
