Threat Against Poland's Judicial Independence Continues

Earlier this year, the Polish government threatened judiciary independence with its removal of judges, and has since appointed 27 new Supreme Court judges. The government’s hastey appointments are in violation of Poland’s laws, and have prompted, Bob Carlson, President of the American Bar Association, to issue a statement of concern. Carlson’s statement urges the government of Poland to “respect the constitutionally protected term of the First President of the Supreme Court and to delay seating the newly appointed judges until after an ECJ ruling on the legality of the new law.” Read the full statement here.
