International Legal Assistance Consortium (ILAC) Rule of Law Assessment Report Launch

A year after their 2017 assessment trip to Guatemala, five experts from the ILAC research team discussed their findings at the ILAC Rule of Law Assessment Report on Guatemala Launch event on October 10th. The International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ), the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), the National Center of State Courts, and the International Association of Prosecutors hosted the launch event at IAWJ’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.


Event panelists Luis Maria Palma, Member of the National Center for State Courts,Vice President of the Latin America chapter of the International Association for Court Administration, Director of the Center for Judicial Studies of the University of Buenos Aires and the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies of the University of Belgrano, Carolina Valenzuela, Member of the International Association of Prosecutors, Crown Prosecutor in the Province of Alberta, Canada; and Rhodri Williams, Senior Legal Expert, ILAC  


Maria Claudia Pulido, Assistant Executive Secretary for Monitoring, Promotion, and Technical Cooperation of the Inter-American Commission for Human Rights, moderated the panelists' discussion. The discussion highlighted the experts’ findings about the on-the-ground assessment of the justice system in the Guatemalan cities of Flores, La Libertad, El Estor, Nebaj, Rabinal, and Quetzaltenango.
