Rule of Law Luncheon: A Conversation About Migration

Hyatt Regency
151 E Upper Wacker Dr. Chicago, IL 60601
Monday, August 6, 2018
12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. CDT

As the world grapples with the complex rule of law problems posed by forced migration in origin, transit, and destination countries, lawyers are at the forefront of exploring solutions to one of the most critical challenges for the 21st century. Indeed, few global phenomena strain human dignity and rights to the degree that the current patterns of and responses to migration do.

With approximately 258 million migrants on the move in 2017, the unprecedented levels of human movement place lives at risk and elicit urgent questions about the role of the rule of law in balancing protection of human rights and upholding legal order. That’s why the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is featuring a conversation about the rule of law and forced migration at our annual Rule of Law Luncheon in Chicago.
The Rule of Law Luncheon is part of the American Bar Association’s annual meeting and will take place Monday, August 6, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. CDT at the Hyatt Regency,151 E Upper Wacker Dr. Chicago, IL 60601.

The luncheon features awards for outstanding pro bono volunteers to ABA ROLI’s programs, recognition of the ABA’s 2018 Human Rights Award Winner, and a keynote conversation about migration and the rule of law with Alex Aleinikoff--the former UN Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees and current Director of the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility at The New School
